We are a Christ-centered development organization empowering lives in Westown (the near west side of Grand Rapids MI). We base our decisions and actions on the belief that Jesus Christ is Lord over all, integrity infuses all aspects of ministry and dignity applies equally to all people.
Since 1967, The Other Way has sought to build a community of hope and extend the love of Christ in our neighborhood. Our desire is to respond to critical needs with creative, preventative and developmental programming. As an organization we strive to put our faith into daily practice by investing in the lives and futures of our urban neighbors. Building on their strengths, we offer neighbors opportunities for personal growth that contributes to long term, sustainable changes in their families and community.
As a Christian community development organization, we understand positive changes in a community are best achieved through positive changes in the families that make up the community. Through nurturing mutual relationships and building on the assets of our neighbors, it is our goal to educate and equip families, facilitate economic stability and growth and develop diverse indigenous leadership to build stronger Christ-centered families and a stronger community.
We envision a community where Westown neighbors value people of all ages, races, abilities and cultures. We desire to see them join together to meet needs, affirm strengths and develop leaders. We believe Westown neighbors working together can advance economic, educational, social and spiritual growth that characterizes a thriving community.
